Our philosophy

HISTORY IS ALIVE

Wine has always been part of Esterhazy: the first references to viticulture date back to the year 1652, and our earliest cellar records stem from 1758 – which is why the number also features on our logo.

In the past few years, we have been doing a lot of fine-tuning in order to realise our vision of authentic Leithaberg wines. We have therefore been farming our vineyards organically for a few years: in 2019 we officially started the organic conversion process, which will be completed in 2023. We employ a “gentle pruning” method to promote the best possible sap flow within the vines, and we make use of valuable compost in our vineyards. We are also excited to harvest the first grapes from the newly-planted “Pirichen” vineyard in Oslip – this site holds tremendous potential! In the cellar, more and more of the wood that we use comes from our own local forests, and we are having fun experimenting with alternative ageing vessels and methods for our “wine projects”. We only work with grapes from our own vineyards. All this is done for the purpose of honing our wine style: it should be crisp and fruit-driven, expressive but not heavy, and whether our wines are enjoyed solo or in food pairings, they should always combine excitement with drinking pleasure. While we were not all born here, this is the region where we live and work – it is what connects us. This appellation, our “Leithaberg DAC”, is just as dynamic as we are.

The vision we foster for our region and for our oft-mentioned “terroir”, cannot be realised without the involvement of passionate people. We have also taken several steps in this regard in the past few years – we added a number of committed employees to our team, opening the way to a successful future. Our Sales Manager Frank Schindler, our South African Cellar Master Robert Krammer as well as Director Wolfgang Hewarth are all on the same page when it comes to farming our vineyards sustainably, as well as questioning and redefining traditions and wine styles. We are proud of our history, but we still have so many plans! We would be delighted if you accompanied us for part of the journey!
